Fires caused by candles are one of the main reasons for most housefires. Many families burn candles in their home but leave them unattended while they’re burning. There are 8 basic safety tips that we should follow for burning candles, most of us disregard these habits and put our homes at risk.

  1. Keep candles 12 inches away from anything that can burn.
  2. Keep candles out of reach of children and pets.
  3. Avoid placing the candles around drafts, vents, or air currents.
  4. Blow out all candles before you leave a room or go to bed.
  5. Never touch or move a burning candle.
  6. Extinguish a candle if the flame becomes too high or flickers repeatedly.
  7. Use a candle snuffer to safely extinguish candles.
  8. Make sure the candles are completely out and the wick ember is no longer glowing.
